Israel [18 Aug 2010|06:16pm]
[ mood | excited ]

So, I realize that I never post here, but for anyone that does pop by just a quick note.
I will be spending the next 10 months in Israel learning hebrew, soaking up a new culture, and most importantly teaching English as a Second Language.

I have also started a blog specifically for the trip (which I will hopefully update more frequently than this one). Arielle's Israeli Adventure

Please feel free to follow what I am up to there.

Voicing my opinions [13 Feb 2008|11:03am]
[ mood | accomplished ]

I took the facilities survey today and decided to inform Phys. Plant of how I feel about their system of keeping us safe on this campus. This is the "brief explanation" I offered for one of my answers.

The response of bad in the safety of the grounds has to do with the way in which the stairs leading to the fine arts quad, and the lower campus area itself are dealt with during inclement weather. While the upper part of campus and the academic quad were safe to walk on during the day (2/12) of our last storm, being down the hill all day I never felt safe going between buildings. Myself and other students fell repeatedly attempting to get to our classes that day and found that some of the stairways had not been salted at all. While all of the walkways on the top of the hill had been cleared, the sidewalks were not cleared before my 10am class making it dangerous for me to get into my class. I would like to say that this has been a one time thing because of the horrible conditions yesterday, but in reality it is an ongoing problem that I have had to deal with for the last three years.
When I reported my concern about safety to the security operator (for lack of knowing who else to call) yesterday I was informed that grounds keeping had 'taken care of it before they left for the day' but I do not feel that it was acceptably done, since I was covered in snow and bleeding at the time from taking a particularly nasty fall after sliding down the stairs.
I understand that you are doing the best you are able to in order to keep us safe, but I would just hope that the same amount of care is used in the future for all parts of the campus, without forgetting about the fine arts down on South Quad.

Hopefully they will read this and take it into consideration during the next storm.

I have so much going on in my life right now, and I still have one more thing I want to add into the mix. Unfortunately I just do not have time for it right now. I have really only talked about it, really talked about it, with one person because I do know it is insane to even want to take on anything else, but honestly I would rather let go of one of the commitments I have right now instead of letting go of this dream. I wish I had more time, but I have to make the decision in the next 2 weeks and this is my only chance. Oh well, I guess we can't have everything we want can we?

Yesterday I decided to try and be proactive about my future. I went to the off-campus study office to set up a meeting for study abroad during the summer. The first one they had open was Dec. 6th. So I signed up for the appointment, got some more brochures to read over and was refered to Lisa McDonald to talk about studying in England.
Then I went to see my advisor. I sat down with him and figured out what I still have to do for the major. Still to go: 1- 100/200 level, 1- 300 level, 1 elective that is an world study area (Latin America, Africa, Middle East) and a Sr. Sem.
He also figured out that I could fit a second major in if I wanted to, and still have one elective spot open to take another course (The GE that I still have to do). I am not saying that I want to do it, but since so many people keep telling me I should, I figured I could at least see if the option was available.

Close your eyes.. And go back..

Before the Internet or AIM..

Before semi automatics and weed..

Before playstation2 or X-bOX..

Before the 5 hours of homework you put off every night..

Before when we got our hearts broken..

Way back..

I'm talkin' bout hide and go seek at dusk.

Red light, Green light.

Playing kickball & dodgeball until your porch light came on.

Mother May I?

Red Rover.

Four square.

Hula Hoops.

Running through the sprinkler.

Happy Meals.

Getting the privelage to sit in the front seat of the car.

Watchin' Saturday Morning cartoons.

Like Hey Arnold and Doug.

Or what about Legends of the Hidden Temple, Global Guts, Double Dare, Salute Your Shorts, ARE YOU AFRAID OF THE DARK?!

Who could forget Snick?

Or the teenage mutant ninja turtles and Power Rangers?

Christmas morning..

Your first day of school.

Bedtime Prayers and Goodnight Kisses.

Climbing trees.

Getting an ice cream off the ice cream truck.

A million mosquito bites and sticky fingers.

Jumpin' down the steps.

Jumpin' on the bed.

Pillow fights.

Runnin' till you were out of breath.

Laughing so hard that your stomach hurt and you almost peed your pants.

Being tired from playin' all day.

Your first crush..

Rainy days at school meant playing "Heads up 7-Up" in the classroom.

Remember that?

I'm not finished yet..

Kool-Aid was the drink of the summer.

Giving your friends a ride on your handlebars or spokes.

Wearing your new shoes on the first day of school.

Class Field Trips.

When nearly everyone's mom was at home when the kids got there.

When getting high was swinging on the swingset.

When $5 seemed like a million.

When your parents took you to McDonalds and you were so cool.

When Toys r Us overuled the "mall".

How about when...

Decisions were made by going "eeny-meeny-miney-moe".

Mistakes were corrected by simply exclaiming, "do over!".

"Race issue" meant arguing about who ran the fastest.

Money issues were handled by whoever was the banker in "monopoly".

Catching fireflies could happily occupy an entire evening.

Being old, referred to anyone over 20.

The worst thing you could catch from the opposite sex was cooties.

Nobody was prettier than Mom.

Nobody was cooler than Dad.

Scrapes and bruises were kissed and made better.

It was a big deal to finally be tall enough to ride the "big people" rides at the amusement park.

Getting an inch of snow was a dream come true.

Abilities were discovered because of a "double-dog-dare".

Spinning around, getting dizzy and falling down was cause for giggles.

If you can remember most or all of these, then you have LIVED.

Show this to anyone who may need a break from their "grown up" life...

I double dog dare you.

Tonight was fun. Lindsay had never seen Animal House so we rented it and decided to sit out on the quad to watch it... I must say upperclassmen sure can give ppl funny looks. A few even came over to see what we were doing at midnight in the quad. LOL They all seemed very... intrigued as Lindsay put it. Surprise of all surprises, it was actually kinda cold out tonight! Its amazing the weather might even be starting to have pity on us poor dying of heat ppl out here in Ohio!
Well off to do some of my homework and then bed.

The Classic Lover
50% partner focus, 38% aggressiveness, 20% adventurousness
Based on the results of this test, it is highly likely that:

You prefer your romance and love to be traditional rather than daring
or out-of-the-ordinary, you would rather be pursued than do the
pursuing and, when it comes to physical love, you concentrate more on
enjoying the experience rather than worrying about your performance.

This places you in the Lover Style of: The Classic Lover.

The Classic Lover is a wonderful Lover Style, and is the
closest it comes to the classic images of the princess in the tower, or
the romantic and chivalrous knight, or the hero/heroine from a Disney
film. The Classic Lover is a treasure to find, though it can be
difficult to do so because they sometimes tend to be shy and/or
difficult to successfully court.

In terms of physical love, the Classic Lover again can be shy,
and often needs more in terms of emotional security to feel comfortable
than some of the other Types. Given the right setting, and the right
lover, the Classic Lover can be a delight in bed.

Best Compatibility can probably be found with: The Romantic Lover (most of all) or the Devoted Lover, or the Liberated Lover.

[ mood | nervous ]

One day down, my three classes today: Japanese, History, and Partnerships and Politics were ok. As in other than the last one they were quite intimidating. And for that reason right now I wish I had stuck to good old Spanish. I'll give it a few more days before I decided if I want to switch. I would really like to learn Japanese, but the way in which it is being taught is not something that I think I can handle.

I miss my friends from home and Sem like crazy. It seems like everyone around me is all "yay college" am I the only one who is having trouble, is scared, or misses ppl this much?

3 days. Thats how long I have been here, and I have made a grand total of 1 friend. Yeah I know it takes time, but I just can't help being afraid that I just won't make anymore. I love being here, but I feel like I might as well be here alone. Ok I know I am sounding just like the type of whiny "oh my god" type person I wish to never be, but selfdoubt is not something I handle very well I guess.

Going to watch my commencement video and all the ppl I miss so much.

I got my liscence today... yay? I mean I'm excited, but I cant drive anywhere because my brother (who got his liscense yesterday) and I share the car and my mother decided the only way to fairly decide who gets to use it is by "who ever does the most chores gets to use the car, and I have to decide every time." Well my brother and I already worked out a perfectly fine plan, but we arent allowed to use it.

Oh well.

In a few months I am (possibly) going to be allowed to drive to W-B, so you all might just get a visit from me. eventually.
